Reason for Cleaning: The HVAC system in this manufacturing building had been neglected, resulting in clogged rooftop units (RTUs) due to heavy dust accumulation. Complicating the project, the facility produced combustible dust, requiring specialized equipment and techniques to prevent the risk of explosion.
Specialized Approach
Due to the presence of combustible dust, our team used explosion-proof, grounded pneumatic vacuums with static-proof hoses to safely contact clean:
- The full HVAC system, including the RTU.
- The exterior of ductwork suspended from the ceiling, ensuring a comprehensive cleaning that addressed both visible and hidden contaminants.
Normal cleaning equipment could not be used in this environment, as it would risk creating sparks that could ignite the combustible dust.
Results
By the end of the project, the HVAC system was restored to full functionality, and the manufacturing facility was left with a safe, clean environment that supported the health and productivity of its workers.
